New York Taking Comments on Proposed Regulations for Hunting Deer, Bears

New York conservation officials are taking public comments on proposed regulations for hunting deer and bear, trapping fishers and trapping in general.

The Department of Environmental Conservation says the proposals are the result of feedback from hunters and trappers and science-based approaches to game management.

They would let junior hunters kill black bear as well as deer during the youth firearms hunt over Columbus Day Weekend and revise rules and limits on hunting deer to decrease populations in some regions and increase them in others.

The fisher trapping season would be reduced in some Adirondack areas and with a limited open trapping season established in parts of central and western New York.
