Sanitation Worker Killed by Garbage Truck on Long Island: Police

A 44-year-old sanitation worker was killed by a garbage truck Monday morning on Long Island, police said.

Jose Molina and his partner were collecting trash around 6 a.m. on Weinmann Boulevard in Melville when the crash happened. Molina had been riding on the back of the truck and apparently got off to collect trash, police said. While Molina was off of the truck, his partner put the vehicle in reverse and it hit him, according to police.

Molina, who lived in Brentwood, was pronounced dead at the scene by a Suffolk County medical examiner. His partner was not injured in the crash.

Officers conducted a safety inspection of the garbage truck and it was released to its owner, Jody Enterprise Inc.

Police said the investigation is ongoing. No charges have been filed at this point.
