Long Island Nursing Home Employee Accused of Stealing Medications

A former nurse at a Long Island nursing home has been arrested on charges she stole medication intended for patients.

Nicholle Gaveglia, a licensed practical nurse at the Medford Multicare Center for Living, was arrested Wednesday. She was charged with petit larceny, possession of a controlled substance and falsifying business records.

She was released on $500 bail after pleading not guilty. Her attorney says Gaveglia is cooperating with the state attorney general's office.

Prosecutors say she stole painkillers and then falsified medical records indicating that the pills had been given to patients.

A nursing home spokesman says an internal audit exposed the alleged theft. Gaveglia was suspended and later fired.

Other employees at the same nursing home are currently on trial on charges related to the death of a patient.
