Northern Lights Sighting Possible in Parts of Tri-State Area Tonight

Recent solar activity on the sun will likely trigger Northern Lights in the higher latitudes overnight, possibly giving stargazers a rare treat, according to the Space Weather Prediction Center.

According to the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the phenomenon may be visible overhead in parts of upstate New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, reports NJ.com. The lights may also be able to be seen from New Jersey.

Typically the display is best the farther north you go, unless clouds impede the view like tonight.

When looking for the Northern Lights, look low on the horizon and try to avoid city lights.

While we may catch a glimpse of the lights in the tri-state area, by far the most vivid displays are likely in places like Alaska and Canada.
