A report prepared for New Jersey Transit's board of directors says criticism of the transportation agency's performance at last February's Super Bowl was "misplaced" and that the agency performed well under the circumstances.
NJ Transit was criticized after fans had to wait hours after the end of the game at MetLife Stadium because of overcrowding. About 28,000 people rode trains to the game from Secaucus Junction, and about 35,000 took trains or NJ Transit buses back.
Those numbers were more than double what transit officials had projected. The report issued Friday says while operations could have been more efficient, NJ Transit moved all passengers safely and didn't turn anyone away.
The report was prepared by the New York law firm of McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney and Carpenter.
