NJ Transit service at Penn Station interrupted after Amtrak signal issues

Amtrak service was also suspended, while LIRR was reporting systemwide delays

NJ Transit and Amtrak service into and out of Penn Station New York was suspended Friday evening, according to the rail agencies, but was later restored with long delays.

"Due to Amtrak signal issues service is suspended into and out of Penn Station New York," NJ Transit posted on social media Friday evening. After 11:30 p.m., the agency said the problems were still causing delays of up to an hour.

Amtrak service was also halted temporarily. Rail traffic in and out of the Manhattan station was said to be dealing with delays of up to 90 minutes, as the transit agency said they were looking to "troubleshoot the communication issues affecting travel."

LIRR had been reporting 45-60 minute systemwide delays, but by 11p.m., service was back to operating on or close to schedule. Though there were still scattered residual delays east of Jamaica, the railroad said.
