NJ Man Charged With Killing Elderly Couple With Baseball Bat: Police

A 20-year-old man faces murder charges for allegedly killing a New Jersey couple with an aluminum baseball bat.

Readington Township police arrested Ezra Simon-Daniels, whom they found covered in blood and sitting in a car parked outside a store in Whitehouse, investigators said Sunday. A distraught Simon-Daniels had called 911 to summon the officers to the location.

Earlier that morning, officers conducted a welfare check on an elderly couple at Simon-Daniel's residence in Branchburg Township. When no one answered knocks at the door, the officers entered and found the couple lying in bed, both bloodied about the head, investigators said.

A bloody baseball bat was found inside the house.

Simon-Daniels was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder and ordered held on $2 million bail.

There was no indication he had obtained a lawyer who could comment on the charges.

The relationship between Simon-Daniels and the victims wasn't clear.
