NJ Gets $86M in Homeland Security Funds

The money will be used to protect the Garden State's chemical plants, ports, rails and other infrastructure

New Jersey will receive $86 million in new federal homeland security funding.

New Jersey Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr. announced the awards on Wednesday, saying the money will be used to protect the Garden State's chemical plants, ports, rails and other infrastructure.

About $30 million will go to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and NJ Transit under a grant that aims to protect the infrastructure of high-threat urban areas.

Another program geared toward protecting intercity bus systems from terrorism will dole out $2.5 million to seven New Jersey bus companies.
