NJ Day Care Worker Broke Baby's Leg: Police

19-year-old woman is accused of breaking the leg of a four-month-old baby

A worker at a Jersey City day care center is accused of breaking the leg of a four-month-old infant in her care, authorities said Friday.

The accused worker, Heather McDonald, 19, of Jersey City,  made an appearance before a judge on Thursday on aggravated assault and endangering charges.  She pleaded not guilty and was released on bail. Her lawyer declined to comment on the allegations against her. The alleged assault occurred on Aug. 6, authorities said.

Authorities did release details on how McDonald allegedly broke the infant's leg.

City and county inspectors spent Friday afternoon at the Academy of Learning day care center, observing conditions at the small day care center that takes children just after birth up to 13 years old. The center was allowed to remain open, but it has many corrections to make, according to state and local officials.

The owner of the Academy of Learning declined comment Friday as she entered her building
