A New Jersey father accused of habitually raping his daughters and terrorizing his family for two decades faces 27 charges and five separate trials for his alleged crimes.
Prosecutors say Aswad Ayinde sired six children with his daughters from the 1980s through 2002 and personally delivered their babies, according to the Daily News..
A judge is set to decide today whether Ayinde's former wife, Beverly Ayinde, can testify against him. He faces five trials for each of the five daughters he is accused of molesting. The first one starts in May.
Beverly Ayinde testified at a pre-trial hearing that her ex-husband's apocalyptic visions drove him to try to create "pure'' family bloodlines by impregnating three of his daughters.
"He said the world was going to end, and it was just going to be him and his offspring and that he was chosen," she said.
In addition to the children he fathered by his daughters, the 51-year-old Ayinde has nine children by his ex-wife Beverly, whom he married in 1977, and at least three others with two Brooklyn women, according to court records cited by the News.
Ayinde's 2006 arrest sparked an investigation by the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services into how he maintained the years of alleged abuse, some of which allegedly occurred under the eye of the agency, which had been monitoring the family after a custody incident in 2000, reports the News.
Prosecutors say Ayinde brutally beat his daughters to keep them from talking about his alleged criminal behavior. His ex-wife claims she, too, was bullied into silence.
"I was afraid to ever accuse him of being demented or being a pedophile," Beverly Ayinde told the court. "I knew the word, but I wouldn't dare use it because it would result in a beating."
Ayinde faces 27 charges, including aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, lewdness, child endangerment, criminal sexual contact and aggravated criminal sexual contact. He's being held on $1 million bond.
