A vertical roller coaster called the Polarcoaster is coming to Atlantic City as part of a major entertainment complex.
The vertical roller coaster will rise high above the city, sending riders twisting, turning and spinning down a track that zigzags around a large tower. At 350 feet, the Polarcoaster will be among the tallest structures in Atlantic City.
Renderings of the Polarcoaster show riders ascending the monolithic structure before tumbling down to a backdrop of panoramic views of Atlantic County and the ocean.
The thrill-ride will be the main attraction of an entertainment center on the site of the former Sands casino, which was shuttered more than a decade ago. The center will include a zip line and wave pool, among other attractions.
The New Jersey Economic Development Authority on Thursday approved a tax break application to help fund the $138 million project, which is expected to be finished by the summer of 2019.
