Man Charged with Abducting, Assaulting NJ Boy

The Essex County Prosecutors office said the suspect allegedly approached the victim in 2011 on a Newark street

A New Jersey man has been charged with abducting a 13-year-old boy off a Newark street and sexually assaulting him.

The Essex County Prosecutors office announced the arrest Friday of 46-year-old Anthony Barham, who faces charges including kidnapping, sexual assault and making terroristic threats.

It isn't clear if Barham has retained a lawyer.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray says Barham, who has lived in East Orange, Newark and Irvington, allegedly approached the victim in 2011 on a Newark street, forced the teen into his vehicle and drove him to Irvington where he sexually assaulted the teen.

The victim escaped and sought help, Murray said.

Prosecutors say Barham was on parole supervision wearing a GPS monitor at the time of the attack.

He is being held on $500,000 bail.
