A 3-month-old boy was found safe hours after his father allegedly took him from his upstate New York home, police say.
Steven Ristick was found in Union City, New Jersey, at around 6 a.m. Monday, police say. The infant was abducted from his home in Greenport, south of Albany, late Sunday.
Police say the boy's father, Jonathan J. Lawrence, allegedly stormed the Columbia County home and took Ristick. Lawrence also allegedly assaulted Ristick’s grandfather.
Lawrence, 21, then allegedly took the child to his home in Union City but was convinced by family members to turn himself in. He went to a police station, handed over the baby and was taken into custody.
Ristick has since been returned to his mother. Lawrence is currently being held in New Jersey on a fugitive warrant pending extradition to New York.
Police issued an Amber Alert for the child after he was taken, but it has since been canceled.
