Dance Instructor Denies Rape Charge Involving 14-Year-Old Student

A Long Island dance instructor has been arraigned on charges of having sex with a 14-year-old girl he had been teaching.

Bryan Galvis pleaded not guilty Friday before Suffolk County Court Judge Barbara Kahn to second-degree rape and other charges.

He is free on $100,000 bond. Defense attorney Luis Pagan said his client is presumed innocent. He declined further comment.

Prosecutors say the 27-year-old Brentwood man worked as an instructor at Herencia Calena Latin Dance Company in Bay Shore. Authorities say the alleged criminal activity began in October 2015.

Authorities say the victim told a family member about it and Galvis was arrested in January.

Galvis is due back in court on May 18.
