NYC Extends Beach and Pool Season to September 10

That summer feeling just got a little longer: New York City says it will extend its beach and pool season beyond Labor Day.

The city's six most popular beaches and all Olympic and intermediate-sized outdoor pools will stay open until Sept. 10.

The beaches opened on May 27. The outdoor pools don't open until June 28.

The extended season applies to Rockaway Beach in Queens; Brooklyn's Coney Island and Brighton Beaches, Staten Island's Midland and South Beaches; and Orchard Beach in the Bronx.

The fiscal 2018 budget includes $1.7 million to fund lifeguards, maintenance workers and other parks staff for the extra week.
