New Poll Shows Cuomo Cutting Into Paterson's Lead

AG could be governor's top rival in 2010

The expression about not being able to win for losing doesn't seem to apply to Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.

Cuomo, who lost in his bid to fill the US Senate seat vacated by Hillary Clinton, has made a considerable dent in a new Siena poll out Monday, pitting him against Gov. David Paterson.

The same poll had Paterson ahead of Cuomo by 23 points last month; now the margin is only two points.

And for the first time since May, Cuomo has a better favorable/unfavorable score than Paterson.

After Paterson selected Kirsten Gillibrand to succeed Clinton, many began to look at Cuomo as Paterson's top competition in next year's gubernatorial primary race.
