NJ Teacher Accused of Groping Student Seeking Extra Credit

The Notre Dame High School teacher was arrested Monday

A New Jersey Catholic school teacher is accused of molesting a student who was looking to earn extra credit earlier this year, prosecutors said.

Notre Dame High School teacher Edmund Harman was arrested Monday afternoon on child endangerment and criminal sexual contact charges after a teen at the Lawrence Township school said that she was fondled before school in February, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office.

The girl went to Harman’s classroom to earn extra credit, authorities said. That's when the 26-year-old teacher allegedly groped and kissed the student before asking her to send him photos of her naked.

Harman was being held in lieu of $150,000 bail Tuesday, prosecutors said. Attorney information for the man wasn't immediately available.

Notre Dame High School said it was "deeply concerned" by the alleged crime.

"We are fully cooperating with the Lawrence Township Police Department and with the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office with regard to the investigation. The Notre Dame Administration has placed the faculty member on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation," the school said in a statement.

Investigators didn't reveal how the assault allegations came to light.

Anyone with more information on the teacher should call The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office at 609-989-6568.
