A New Jersey Senate panel is considering a measure that would make it easier for children to have access to medical marijuana.
The Senate Judiciary committee on Thursday will discuss a bill that would eliminate requiring written confirmation from a pediatrician and a psychiatrist in order for juveniles to access medical marijuana.
So far, no minors have been granted access to the state's program.
The bill would also allow for medical marijuana to be produced in edible form, something the current law bans.
The measure comes amid a recent case of parents of a 2-year-old New Jersey girl with a severe form of epilepsy. They were unable to obtain certification from a psychiatrist for their child to participate.
They are seeking marijuana in capsule or edible form.
