Officials ID 17-Year-Old Crushed to Death by Falling Stone Slab in NJ

Authorities have identified a New Jersey teen killed over the weekend when a 650-pound stone slab fell on him as 17-year-old Jared Marchiano, of Bayville, Ocean County.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Marchiano's body was found by a passerby about 6:40 a.m. Saturday on the property of Stone N Counters South LLC, in Bayville, a business that manufactures countertops. Authorities said the business was closed when the freak accident occurred, and it was unclear why the teen was on the property.

It appeared that Marchiano was attempting to walk between marble and granite slabs when the massive slab fell on top of him, crushing him, authorities said. It was unclear how long he'd been trapped before a motorist spotted him and called 9-1-1.

The teenager was pronounced dead shortly after authorities arrived on scene.
