A New Jersey lawmaker's top aide who is also the wife of Newark's mayor has been sentenced to an additional year of probation after violating terms of her home confinement stemming from a tax evasion conviction.

Linda Jumah agreed Wednesday in federal court to a deal giving her an extra year of probation after her probation officer said she came home later than allowed.

Jumah is Assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker's chief of staff and Mayor Ras Baraka's wife. Both are Democrats.

Her attorney, Robert Stahl, told NJ.com she's responsible and looks forward to moving on.

Jumah was sentenced in 2018 to three years' probation and eight months of home confinement after pleading guilty to a charge she failed to pay taxes on income earned through her political consulting business.
