MTA Nominates Interim CEO

Long Island Rail Road President Helena Williams will take the helm, for now

Long Island Rail Road President Helena Williams has been nominated as interim executive director and chief executive officer of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority until a successor is appointed to replace departing chief Elliot Sander.

MTA Chairman H. Dale Hemmerdinger announced the nomination Thursday.

The MTA board is expected to approve the nomination at its May 27 meeting. Williams will continue as LIRR President.

New York Gov. David Paterson accepted Sander's resignation earlier this month.

Williams has headed the Long Island Rail Road since 2007. She had previously headed Long Island Bus and was a Nassau County deputy executive.
