Police Horse Runs Away in Bronx

A mounted police horse briefly escaped its handler in the Bronx Wednesday night, galloping about 10 to 12 blocks before it was caught, police say.

The horse got away near Lafayette and Randall avenues in Melrose at about 6 p.m., police said.

Police vehicles tried to catch up with the horse and the pursuit was captured by a witness in a car.

A neighbor helped capture the horse about 10 to 12 blocks away and returned it to its handler.

No one was hurt.
