Missing Zebra Found Dead in NY Park: Report

A missing zebra was found dead in the Catskill Preserve, state police said.

Richard Myer tells the Times Union of Albany his 5-month-old zebra named Zula was spooked by a branch hitting a barn Thursday at Bailiwick Animal Park and Riding Stables in Catskill, 30 miles south of the capital.

Myer spent Sunday driving on back roads in wooded areas around Catskill looking for Zula, who is about the size of a large pony.

Local volunteers joined the search, and Myer says police were also on the lookout for the wayward zebra.

The owner of a lost zebra offered a $1,000 reward for its safe return in New York.

According to the Times Union, the state Department of Environmental Conservation said the animal might have fallen from a steep cliff.
