A rescue dog who traveled from Manhattan to Hoboken through the Lincoln Tunnel after running away from a dog walker has died, a friend of the owner said.

Lolo, a 9-month-old whippet mix, escaped from her dog walker on Thursday in Hell's Kitchen, the owner's uncle, Peter Liao, said. The owner's friend on Sunday said Lolo was hit by a car.

Lolo was a rescue from the streets of Puerto Rico, Liao said. Her owner was on vacation when she ran off.

Police saw Lolo going through the Lincoln Tunnel and others spotted her at a Hoboken dog park, Liao said.

The 20-pound, short-haired dog somehow survived the sub-freezing overnight temperatures.

Friends had been searching in Hoboken and Weehawken for the white dog, Liao said.
