Trial Begins For Mom Accused of Killing 5-Year-Old in NJ in 1991

Opening statements have begun in the trial of a woman charged with killing her 5-year-old son in New Jersey nearly 25 years ago.

Middlesex County prosecutors started presenting their case Wednesday against Michelle Lodzinski. They showed jurors a blanket that was found near Timothy Wiltsey's body and say the blanket came from Lodzinski's apartment.

Lodzinski was arrested in 2014 in Florida, where she was living.

She had long been a suspect in Timothy's disappearance. She had said he vanished while they were at a carnival in Sayreville in 1991. His remains were found the following year in Edison, several miles away.

Lodzinski later changed her story, saying Timothy had been kidnapped from the carnival.

Lodzinski's lawyer says the state has no direct evidence tying her to the crime.
