Metro-North Bar Carts May Be Derailed for Good: Report

Metro-North bar carts that enable commuters to grab a quick beverage may be shut down for good, according to a report.

The Journal News reports that dozens of vendors who worked at about 20 trackside locations have been told to look for other jobs.

MTA officials say no decision has been made on the bar carts' future.

The bar carts have been shut down since early December.

Union officials said bar carts generate up to $8 million in annual revenue, the newspaper reported. It said their absence over the holidays inspired an online petition drive with 275 signatures calling for their return to Grand Central platforms.
