Cool, Wet Memorial Day Kicks Off Stormy Week; Parades Canceled

You can probably rule out a beach trip, but if you're determined to barbecue on this gray, wet Memorial Day, your best bet for a dry cookout will be later in the day, Storm Team 4 says.

Showers are expected through the morning until later in the afternoon, according to Storm Team 4. Clouds will linger for the rest of today, but the weather at least looks drier. Highs will stay cool in the lower 60s.

Several towns across the tri-state have already canceled local Memorial Day parades in anticipation of the rain, including Freeport on Long Island; Fairfield in Connecticut; and East Orange, Westfield, Saddle Park, Rochelle Park, Franklin Township and Cranford in New Jersey.

The rest of the week will remain stormy: Tuesday will continue with clouds and cooler weather. A few isolated to scattered thunderstorms will develop during the afternoon and evening hours, according to Storm Team 4.

Then on Wednesday, another round of gusty showers and thunderstorms will develop in the afternoon, and some of those thunderstorms could be severe, Storm Team 4 says.

Thursday looks to be the dry day of the week. Scattered showers and strong thunderstorms will be possible late Friday.
