Mega Millions Jackpot Swells to More Than Half-a-Billion Dollars

The Mega Millions jackpot has swelled to an enormous $512 million, the fifth largest in the lottery game's history.

New York Mega Millions announced Monday the jackpot had increased from $493 million to more than half a billion dollars. The cash value of the prize pot for Tuesday is $303.4 million.

The record Mega Millions jackpot of $656 million was shared by winners in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland on March 30, 2012. Just behind that is a $648 pot won in California and Georgia on December 17, 2013.

The third largest prize in the game’s history was won by an Indiana family on July 8, 2016, and that remains the largest jackpot won by a single ticket.

The largest Mega Millions jackpot paid to a New Yorker to date is $319 million, Mega Millions said. The jackpot was claimed by a group of state workers.

If no one matches all five numbers plus the Mega Ball in tomorrow night's drawing, the jackpot will keep growing.
