Man Wounded by Drive-By Dirt-Bike Rider: Police

A 19-year-old man was hospitalized Sunday with a gunshot wound that police said was inflicted by a gunman riding a dirt bike.

The victim was shot at about 4 p.m. in the vicinity of 112th Street and 2nd Avenue in East Harlem, investigators said.

The victim was taken to Harlem Hospital Center and treated for a wound that police said wasn't life-threatening.

Residents of the neighborhood told NBC 4 New York that a group of men on dirt bikes and ATVs were cruising the streets prior to the shooting.

"All I heard was the motorcycles and three shots," said one.

The wounded man had been visiting his grandmother, who lives nearby, said Emily Navarro, who said the victim is her nephew. He was simply standing on the corner enjoying the warm weather when he was hit by the gunfire, she said.

"They gave him a shot in the leg, but he's alright," she said.

No arrest has been made.

Residents said the dirt bike riders have been a constant problem in the neighborhood.
