The robber stole $2,000 from under a mattress, police say

The robber made off with $2,000 from under a mattress and the victim's cell and landline phones, the NYPD said.

The 73-year-old victim was alone in his home on East 175th Street and Crotona Park North in the Bronx on Jan. 23 when the burglar knocked on his door, police said.

The man forced his way inside, grabbed a knife from the kitchen, sat the victim in a chair in the living room and slashed his arms and hands, police said. The robber was demanding money during the attack.

He took the cash from the victim's bedroom and the phones, then ran off, police said.

The victim was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition, police said.
