Man Stabbed After Buying Empty Box Thinking Phone Was Inside: NYPD

A man thinking he was buying a new phone was stabbed after chasing the stranger who sold him an empty box, police say.

On June 29, the victim and the man met up in the Bronx to make the exchange for the iPhone, police said. After the transaction was completed, the 38-year-old man looked inside the box to find that there was no phone inside.

The victim chased after the man who sold him the empty box when a second suspect waiting nearby stabbed the victim in the chest, according to the NYPD.

The man was taken to an area hospital, where he is in stable condition.

Police released surveillance footage of the first suspect, who is seen wearing a white shirt. Police didn’t release a description of the second suspect.
