Long Island Teen Stabs Teen in Chest Amid Fight Over Instagram Posts: Police

A Long Island teenager stabbed another teenager in the chest after an argument about something the victim allegedly posted on Instagram, authorities say.

Police say the 17-year-old victim went to the Hewlett Avenue home of Anthony Vas, also 17, on Wednesday to confront him over the social posts. The two started arguing and Vas allegedly stabbed the other teen in the chest with a five-inch kitchen knife.

A classmate of the teens at Bellmore's JFK High School says the teens were feuding over a girl who had first dated the stabbing victim.

"They eventually broke up and she took up with the other kid, and you know what happens when a girl is involved," said Anthony Ammerman. "They had problems."

The 17-year-old victim was taken to a hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery for the chest wound. He was last listed in stable condition.

Vas was arrested hours later at his home on charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon. He pleaded not guilty in court; attorney information wasn't immediately clear.

Nassau police wouldn't say exactly what was posted, saying only it was "concerning, possibly hurtful Instagram message" and that it drove the victim to confront Vas at his Merrick home.

A longtime neighbor of Vas surprised by the allegation, saying, "He's always been very respectful, a genuinely nice kid."

Police warn social media feuds aren't unique, and urge parents to watch their kids are posting and receiving.
