Man Shot at LaGuardia Airport

Near taxi wait area

A young man is in critical condition after being shot in the chest at LaGuardia Airport last night, police said.

The 26-year-old victim was found at about 11:30 p.m., just outside of the taxi cab holding lot between Terminals B and C.

Sources close to the investigation told NBC New York the man was shot inside of a vehicle and then pushed out of it at the location.

Several cab drivers heard the gunfire, according to the Daily News.

"We heard boom," one hack told the paper. "We were inside the lot. We saw him down, we called the police." The driver also said the shooting victim asked for his cell phone and called a friend.

Some drivers said the shooting highlighted the need for heightened security in the area.

"Double the security here because it doesn't make no sense for somebody to drop somebody here," taxi driver Julian Landree told NBC New York. "[We] need a check in point... Check inside cars and trunks... Everything.  It's sad you know."

Cabbies told cops that the assailants were three armed men in a silver Pathfinder, according to the News. A police source told the paper the incident may have been a drug deal gone bad.

Officials said the unidentified victim was in critical condition at Elmhurst Hospital.
