Man Jailed for Stabbing Friend Over TV Remote

Sentenced to 18 years

A judge in central New Jersey has sentenced a 73-year-old man to 18 years in prison for fatally stabbing a friend 27 times during a dispute over the TV remote.

Donald Zampini must serve at least 13 years before he'll be eligible for parole.

The former physicist, who had no criminal record, pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter.

Zampini told the judge he was mentally ill when he attacked Barbara Morris after the 63-year-old took away the remote control in her East Windsor home in 2006.

The Queens, N.Y.-native said he was suffering from severe depression, insomnia and anxiety.
