Man Gets 13 Years in Priest Beating

Defendant has also been convicted of burning down a church

A man has been sentenced to 13 years to life in prison in the 2007 walking-cane beating of a priest.

Queens prosecutors say 49-year-old Calvin Bostick was sentenced Thursday in the February 2007 attack on the Rev. Christopher Ezeoke at St. Anthony of Padua Church.

District Attorney Richard Brown's office says Bostick pleaded guilty in January to second-degree assault.

Prosecutors say Bostick was convicted of setting a fire in 1999 that destroyed the same church. They say he was released from prison just days before the attack on the priest.
Brown's office says Bostick faces up to life in prison because he's been convicted of at least three violent crimes.

Mary Beth Anderson, Bostick's Legal Aid lawyer, didn't immediately return a message.
