Man Fatally Stabbed in East Harlem Park: Officials

A man was fatally stabbed in the neck at a Manhattan park in front of a playground filled with children Friday afternoon, police and witnesses say.

Timothy Goodwin, 41, was stabbed in the neck inside the Marcus Garvey Park near 124th Street and Madison Avenue in East Harlem at about 1:30 p.m., police say.

Witnesses said he walked out of the park and tried to go across the street for help but did not make it far.

Goodwin was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Parents at the busy neighborhood park were horrified that such a violent encounter could take place in full view of young children playing.

"As a parent living in this community, you don't want your children to see such things," said Phillip Nelson. "These things, our children should not see."

Police have not identified a suspect.
