A man was struck by a car and critically injured as he was crossing a busy Bronx highway on Friday afternoon, police said.
The 77-year-old man, later identified as Rugovac Dzemaily, of the Bronx, was crossing Pelham Parkway around 3 p.m. when he was hit by a white Subaru sedan traveling southbound on the Hutchinson River Parkway, according to police.
The Subaru had front-end damage, roof damage and a shattered windshield, Chopper 4 video over the Pelham Bay neighborhood shows. Police said the driver stayed at the scene and has not been arrested.
The man was taken to Jacobi Hospital in critical condition. Police said he went into cardiac arrest after being hit and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Bumper-to-bumper traffic stretched back four miles as police investigated.
