A man is facing charges in connection with the deadly stabbing of his mother over the weekend in New Jersey, authorities announced Monday.

Eric Kaplan, 31, was arrested in connection with the death of Ann Kaplan on Sunday at a home in Halstead Terrace in Fair Lawn, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo said.

According to prosecutors, Kaplan allegedly attacked his mother with a knife during a domestic violence assault. Although, Ann allegedly managed to call 911 during the assault, she was unable to communicate with the dispatcher.

The Fair Lawn Police Department responded to the abandoned 911 call and found the home secure, prosecutors say, adding that officers allegedly observed through a window Ann lying on the floor.

Officers forced entry into the home and treated the victim’s injuries, according to authorities.

However, Ann was later pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey.

Kaplan faces charges of murder and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Neighbors told NBC New York a woman and her son lived at the home, which is in a quiet neighborhood where crimes rarely happen. The two kept to themselves, according to neighbors.

Kaplan is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

It is not immediately clear if he retained an attorney who could comment on the charges.
