An architect in New York City has been charged in the deaths of his two dogs that were left in his vehicle when he went to a Hudson Valley balloon festival on an 80-degree day.
Police in the city of Poughkeepsie say 41-year-old Yu Inamoto was at Saturday's Hudson Valley Hot Air Balloon festival when he left the dogs in the cargo area of his sport utility vehicle for about an hour.
Officers say when he returned to the SUV, the dogs were unconscious. Inamoto brought the dogs to a local emergency animal hospital, but they didn't survive.
The high temperature Saturday afternoon was around 85 degrees.
Inamoto turned himself in to police Tuesday and was charged with unjustifiably injuring or killing an animal.
Inamoto, an architect with a Manhattan firm, says he's not commenting on the charges.
