Man in Black Van Tries to Lure Girls With Candy on Long Island: Police

A man in a black van has been approaching girls walking to school on Long Island and attempting to entice them with candy, police say.

The man has tried to lure girls ranging from 8 to 16 years old in Nassau County over the last few weeks, according to police. Three of the children were walking to or from school when they were approached, and in two of the incidents, he tried to lure them with candy. 

Police said the incidents happened on April 13 on Melvin Avenue in Lakeview; on April 22 on Woodfield Road and Janos Lane in Lakeview; on April 23 on Lakeview Avenue in Lynbrook; on May on Grove Street and Jamaica Avenue in Valley Stream; and on May 7 on Orlando and Champlain avenues in Lakeview. 

Residents who see suspicious activity should call 911 immediately. Anyone with information on the suspect, described as a man in his 20s driving a black van or SUV, possibly with a dent on the back right door and possibly with tinted windows, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
