Two strangers attacked a man with a hammer in Brooklyn, leaving him with injuries so severe that he needed eight staples on his head, police said.
The attack began with a dispute between the strangers just after noon on Christmas Day, according to sources.
The men then struck the 52-year-old victim with a silver Mercedes Benz on Flushing Avenue in Williamsburg.
After striking the victim, two of the men got out of the car and beat him with a hammer and a metal rod, police said. A third man stayed in the driver's seat.
The attackers then fled in the Mercedes with New York plates.
The victim was taken to a hospital with eye and head injuries, according to police, who said he needed eight staples on his head.

He spoke with News 4 by phone. He said he's too afraid for his life, knowing that the men are still on the loose. Still, he's confident police will make arrests.
Tim Hone was walking to work Saturday at the site of the attack. He said arrests would bring peace of mind to him and other residents in the neighborhood.
"It seems totally senseless. It's scary that people are capable of that," Hone said.
