Man, 26, Killed in Bronx Hit-Run Accident

Elliot Jermaine of the Bronx was struck at East 233rd Street and Barnes Avenue at 4:43 a.m. Tuesday

Police are investigating an accident in the Bronx in which a pedestrian was fatally struck by a truck that fled the scene.

The 26-year-old victim, Elliot Jermaine of the Bronx, was struck at East 233rd Street and Barnes Avenue in Wakefield at 4:43 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say Jermaine was crossing Barnes Avenue when a white box truck traveling north on Barnes Avenue struck him while making a left turn onto 233rd Street.

He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

A family friend told NBC 4 New York she found out about the accident Tuesday morning on the news, and didn't realize at first the victim was Jermaine.

"When I heard it, I thought that's unfortunate," Vanessa Thompson said. "Now I know the person, even more heart wrenching."
