An actor on HBO's "Treme" is seeking class-action status for his profiling lawsuit against Macy's.
Douglas Wigdor, a lawyer for Robert Brown, filed the court papers in Manhattan federal court Wednesday. The 29-year-old Brown says he was stopped buying a $1,350 Movado watch, and believes he was targeted because he's black.
The lawsuit says many others have been targeted at the store because of race. He first filed a state suit last month.
The suit says that Macy's has not changed its wrongful security practices, even after a settlement reached with the New York attorney general in 2005 over racial profiling complaints. A separate lawsuit against the NYPD says the department encourages the practices.
The city's law department and Macy's didn't immediately comment.
A judge must approve the class-action status.
