Police are boosting patrols around two Long Island schools districts following nearly a dozen reports of children being followed or approached by one or more men, and authorities released a sketch of a man they are looking to question in connection with the alleged lurings.
Ten incidents have been reported so far this month around schools in Merrick and Bellmore; the children are most often approached as they are heading home after classes.
Many of the reports involve children being followed by a white minivan or a green sedan. The children involve range in age from about sixth grade to eighth grade students and include both girls and boys.
On Monday, police released a sketch of a "person of interest" in several of the incidents, including on April 10 in Bellmore near the Grand Avenue Middle School (above).
Anyone with information about the person of interest or the attempted luring is asked to call police.
