Coney Island's Luna Park Kicks Off New Season With Egg-Cream Christening of Cyclone Coaster

Coney Island's famous Luna Park is officially opening for the season on Sunday.

The kickoff event includes a "christening" of the Cyclone roller coaster with an egg cream.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, local officials and community leaders will also be there for a blessing of the rides, alongside a marching band and Mr. Met himself.

The event will be held in front of the beloved Cyclone, which celebrates its 90th birthday in 2017. The roller coaster has provided rides for almost 1 million riders from around the world since 1927, according to a Luna Park spokeswoman.

Luna Park is New York City's largest amusement park.

Nathan’s Famous — one of New York City’s longest-tenured food institutions — is celebrating a big birthday. John Chandler reports.
