NY Woman, 21, Kills Friend in Alleged DWI Crash: Officials

The women were driving in Rockville Centre early Sunday

A 21-year-old Long Island college student was charged with vehicular manslaughter and DWI in a car crash that killed her friend, who was also 21.

Asya Ulmer pleaded not guilty Monday and her lawyer, Fred Brewington, said she was "inconsolable" over the crash early Sunday.

"There are no winners," he said.

Police say Ulmer, a student a Nassau Community College, was driving a BMW northbound on North Center Avenue in Rockville Centre when she struck a parked tractor trailer just before 6 a.m.

Police say 21-year-old Jennifer Alexis, of Bayside, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ulmer faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.
