Three men were arrested on Tuesday after authorities said they handcuffed and stabbed a 27-year-old with a steak knife while trying to recover one of their friend's belongings.
Jonathan Faneytt, 21, Jesus Maldonado, 22, and Jorge Freire-Romero, 19, were all charged with multiple crimes including attempted murder and kidnapping in the attack on Jedwood Place in Valley Stream Monday evening, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
Authorities say the trio went into the man's house, hit him in the head with a handgun and attacked him before slapping handcuffs on his wrists.
Police say that once the victim was cuffed, the suspects tossed him in a bathtub and stabbed him repeatedly with a steak knife.
They then put the badly injured man in a car and drove to Midvale Lane, where they dumped the man and drove away. The victim walked to a hospital to be treated.
"They stabbed and beat him within inches of his life," said Acting Nassau Police Commissioner Thomas Krumpter. "He was only lucky that he was so close to the hospital. He clearly would have died if there was any kind of delay in providing of medical care."
It wasn't clear if the men had attorneys who could comment on the charges. Police said it wasn't clear if the men broke into the victim's house or were invited inside.
