Jesse, the adorable mastiff mix puppy that was found in a park in Harlem unable to walk last month, took steps for the first time Sunday without the help of a brace or supports.
Video posted to Facebook by the New York Bully Crew shows the female pup taking a few steps through the woods before she tumbles back down to the ground. The steps come just a week after Jesse stood on all fours without help for the first time.
One week ago today, Jesse stood on all fours with no help. During this past week she took her first step. Today, she is walking!!!!!!!GoJesseGo!!!!!! #JessesJourney By @c.legit5 :"Annnnnndddddd she walks .. I knew she would.. Next is running with my pack.. HOW AMAZING IS THIS?!?! ❤️ This is exactly why we appreciate all donations given towards Jesse's care! She is going above and beyond to regain her strength and courage to walk again, and doing a fantastic job at it! Thank you to everyone who has been donating towards her care and physical therapy sessions! We are still hoping to up her sessions to THREE TIMES A WEEK. NBC 4 New York first reported on Jesse a few days after she was found in mid-April with an inhumanely hacked-off tail near a blanket in the park. At the time, she couldn’t walk without the help of a special harness, and the group was taking her to veterinarians and neurologists to figure out why she couldn’t use her legs.
The group said it still doesn't know why Jesse was unable to walk and is more focused on her recovery than getting to the bottom of the diagnosis. The rescue has posted often about Jesse's progress, showing the dog swimming in a therapy pool, walking with the help a trainer and sitting up on her own.
Your daily dose of Jesse!! She is getting stronger slowly but surely!! Trying to stand on her own in therapy today!!In the words of our Jesse Girl's Foster Mom and angel Lindsay❤️"Dear Jesse, I hope you can understand me when I say to you.........you are the strongest angel I have ever known. You find such happiness in your fight. You give kisses in your frustration........ And you have touched the lives of everyone you have met..... WE LOVE YOU JESSE.❤️"#GoJesseGo #JessesJourney #FightAbuseNotDogs #SpeakingForTheOnesWhoCant #BornToLoveForcedToFightPosted by New York Bully Crew on Tuesday, April 21, 2015
The group set up an online fundraiser to pay for the Jesse's treatments and said it has able to take the dog to acupuncture treatments and an additional physical therapy session each week with the donations.
