New Jersey Livery Cab Driver Who Crashed into Sidewalk Was Fatally Shot: Police

Investigators say a livery cab driver who crashed into a sidewalk in front of a New Jersey home, flattening a fence, taking down a tree and totaling another car, had been fatally shot.

Neighbors on Snyder Street in Orange said they heard gunshots at around 11 p.m. Wednesday just before the crash, which left behind a broken fence, a tree snapped and thrown across the driveway, and car parts on the curb.

Officers found the driver, 55-year-old Jonas Larose of East Orange, dead of an apparent gunshot wound.

"It was mayhem out here last night," said a neighbor named Monique Thursday, who described hearing "two loud gunshots, then a loud bang like somebody hit something."

Another resident who only gave his first name as Marc said his fence was flattened in the crash and his car was totaled.

"I think I've gotta find a new place to live. That's too close," he said.

Police are investigating if Larose was a target as they look to make an arrest.
