School to Give Home Drug Test Kits to Parents

A Long Island high school plans to give away home drug testing kits to parents as part of a substance abuse workshop.

The kits are expected to be available following the 7:30 p.m. presentation on Thursday at Comsewogue High School in Port Jefferson Station.

School district deputy superintendent Joseph Rella said the purpose of the workshop is not to encourage drug testing. He said the kits are being given out because they were donated by www.DrugTestYourTeen.com.

Mass.-based First Check Diagnostic Corp. produces the kits to test urine for marijuana and methamphetamine.

The American Academy of Pediatrics encourages parents to consult a doctor rather than use a home drug-testing kit.
